Our kolej have to send representative to attend this activity. It held on Dataran Panggung Seni (4 Mac 2017, Saturday). I also don't know what is Pongal so I go search google. Pongal is harvest
festival of Tamilnadu, a southern Indian state. The festival falls on the
same day (14th January) when the whole country celebrates the festival of
Makar Sankranti. Named after a sweet rice dish (Pongal) the Pongal festival
with full of its grand celebration of its rich culture and traditions runs
for three days.
The first day of Pongal, called Bhogi Pongal, marks the offering of Pongal
(the rice dish) to lord Indra in order to thank them for giving rain for
harvesting. Bhogi is the first day of the
four-day Pongal festival. According to the Gregorian calendar it is
normally celebrated on 13 January but sometimes it is celebrated on 14
January. In Tamil Calendar, this corresponds to last day of the Tamil
month Maargazhi. It is a festival celebrated widely in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
On Pogi, people discard old and derelict things and concentrate on
new things causing change or transformation. At dawn, people light a
bonfire with logs of wood, other solid-fuels and wooden furniture at
home that are no longer useful.
The disposal of derelict things is where all old habits, vices,
attachment to relations and material things are sacrificed in the
sacrificial fire of the knowledge of Rudra,
known as the "Rudra Gita Jnana Yajna". It represents realisation,
transformation and purification of the soul by imbibing and inculcating
various divine virtues. Pogi is celebrated the day preceding Thai Pongal and Makar Sankranti. (From Wikipedia as a knowledge)
